With the global population expected to exceed 9 billion people by 2050, farmers are tasked with finding additional ways to grow food for more people on less land. But thanks to advances in science and technology, along with the right agricultural practices, Mosaic is making it possible for farmers to meet the demand.
Friday, October 13 is World Fertilizer Day. Fertilizer is crucial because it allows farmers to increase productivity and grow healthy crops. In fact, fertilizer is responsible for approximately half of the world’s crop yields!
Mosaic’s fertilizers are produced by mining phosphate and potash. In Florida, phosphate is mined and then transported via trucks or rail to our manufacturing facilities. There, phosphate ore is developed into our fertilizer products.
Our work is critically important, as our products account for 73 percent of North America’s annual phosphate production. But mining and manufacturing are just a part of what we do to achieve our mission of helping the world grow the food it needs.
By promoting the 4R Nutrient Stewardship Program, we encourage farmers to apply the right fertilizer, at the right rate, at the right time and in the right place. Not only does this yield better results for farmers, it also lessens the impact on the environment and can even help curb the effects of climate change.
At Mosaic, we celebrate World Fertilizer Day every day in our efforts to create the best possible results for farmers, the environment, our employees and the world. That’s why we started one of our latest ventures, Mosaic Biosciences, to continue the focus on using science and innovation for even better agribusiness.
