Thirteen food partners across Tampa Bay are each receiving $12,500 to fight food insecurity, thanks to the Goals for Food partnership between Mosaic and the Tampa Bay Lightning.

The end of the Lightning’s playoff season concluded the 11th season of Goals for Food. As part of the partnership, Mosaic donates $1,000 for every goal and $1,500 for every hat trick scored by the Lightning during home games. This year’s total was $$163,000, totaling more than $1 million donated since the partnership began in 2013.

The funds come at a perfect time for the food partners, who will likely see an influx of residents in need as children are out of school during the summer months. According to Feeding America, summer is the hungriest season of the year for students, as 22 million children nationally rely on school breakfast and lunch programs. Donations from Goals for Food can be used to help bridge that gap locally. According to Feeding Tampa Bay, hundreds of thousands of students rely on food programs for balanced, nutritious meals.

Tampa Bay Lightning Community Representative Dave Andreychuk, who played for the team when they won the Stanley Cup following the 2003-2004 season, describes the Goals for Food partnership as “a perfect match.”

“Mosaic is a company that has the same kind of values that we have at the Lightning, which is to give back to the community,” Andreychuk said. “As a player, you notice things that happen on the ice, especially when a goal is scored, and you know there’s money that’s going to be invested in those food partners. And being off the ice, I really see the benefits. I am very proud to be part of this partnership.”

The conclusion of the 2023-2024 season also marked more than $1 million donated through the Goals for Food partnership.

“To have our contributions total more than $1 million for our local food partners speaks to the impact of this partnership,” said Sarah Fedorchuk, Mosaic Vice President – Government and Public Affairs. “We’re proud to support such an important cause in fighting food insecurity, and we’re excited to continue our work with the Lightning.”
